Cuba firmly sues US for damages caused by blockade

Cuba maintains its firm lawsuit against the United States Government for the huge economic damages caused by its blockade.
It is a lawsuit filed by social and mass organizations before the Provincial People’s Court of Havana, which issued a sentence on the matter on May 5, 2000.

Experts and witnesses presented allegations that supported Washington’s culpability for its systematic actions of economic warfare against Cuba in order to destroy its revolutionary process.

It will soon be 21 years since that ruling. At that time, the damages caused by the blockade amounted to 67.093 billion dollars.

On the other hand, the losses caused by all kinds of aggressions against Cuba totaled 54 billion dollars, for a total of over 121 billion US dollars.

The Court’s ruling sentenced the US Government to repair and compensate the Cuban people in that amount.

The judicial decision considered the US blockade as an act of genocide. Since then, that hostile policy has been intensified with negative impacts on all spheres of Cuba’s social and productive life.

From April 2019 to March 2020 alone, the blockade caused damages to Cuba in the order of 5.57 billion dollars, according to the report that Havana will submit to the United Nations General Assembly.
