Cuba denounces US blockade prevents it from attending OACPS forum

Brussels, June 3 (Prensa Latina) Cuba on Wednesday denounced that the US blockade precluded the country from attending the 1st Extraordinary Inter-Sessional Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS).
The online multilateral forum ‘Transcending the Covid-19 pandemic: building resilience through global solidarity’ was hosted by its current President Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta from the US platform ZOOM.

Unfortunately, Cuba has not been able to attend the summit due to its non-access to ZOOM due to the economic, commercial and financial US blockade the Cubans have been suffering for six decades, the Cuban Ambassador to Belgium, Norma Goicochea, warned in a letter.

Norma Goicochea, who also represents Cuba in Luxembourg and the European Union (EU), asked organizers to circulate the document among OACPS members, to whom she confirmed Havana’s willingness to continue its cooperative ties.

‘As can be seen, the US blockade also violates Cuba’s right to attend online international forums, considering that most of the platforms used are from the United States,’ she said.

Goicochea also insisted that such a situation violates the principle of sovereign equality of States, enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, as well as purposes contained therein.
