Cuba donates drugs to Vietnam to fight Covid-19

Cuba on Wednesday delivered to Vietnam a batch of medicines to help fight Covid-19, among them Interferon Alpha 2B, a Cuban drug of proven efficacy in treating patients suffering from the disease. This is one of several gestures Cuba and Vietnam reciprocally support amid the pandemic, which also demonstrates the commitment to a common response to the disease, the island’s Ambassador to Hanoi Lianys Torres said.

As a developing country and despite the US blockade, Cuba has been developing its biopharmaceutical industry for the welfare of its people and other nations, the diplomat said.

This is fertile ground to expand bilateral cooperation, to contribute to the comprehensive exchange between our countries, which will celebrate the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2020, Torres said.

After expressing gratitude for the donation, Colonel General Nguyen Vinh Chin, Deputy Defense Minister, recalled that Vietnam is also benefiting from the island’s experiences in fighting the Covid-19 through videoconferences and other exchanges of criteria.
