Cuba declares COVID-19 ‘under control’

The Cuban government says coronavirus pandemic is ‘under control’ after nine days without a death from COVID-19.

Latin America is the world’s worst-hit region by the coronavirus pandemic, according to the World Health Organization.

But while cases continue to skyrocket in countries like Brazil and Mexico, the island nation of Cuba has gone nine straight days without a single virus-related death.

The early detection and containment strategies the country put in place seem to have paid off.

Al Jazeera’s Manuel Rapalo reports.
