Cuba Support Group Ireland condemns escalation of US blockade\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cuba Support Group Ireland condemns \nthe intensification of the illegal blockade of Cuba recently announced \nby the Trump administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The measures are undisguised imperial \naggression at it\u2019s most callous and most egregious. It displays a level\n of disregard for the principals of civilised coexistence, international\n law and universal human rights not seen since Europe\n was in the evil grip of fascism. Indeed, the measures, if allowed to \nstand, call into question the entire edifice of the post World War II \nsettlement with its international architecture of Universal Declaration,\n The United Nations and the International Criminal\n Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the members of the European Union,\n the actions of the US government undermine the very principals upon \nwhich their Union is founded and have been rightly been condemned by the\n Trade Commissioner. Legal counter measures have been put\n in place to protect European companies exposed to the globalised \nextortion introduced by these measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The intensified sanctions regime has \nsucceeded in uniting in opposition all but the most sycophantic puppet \nadministrations of the USA across the globe. It is rare for China, \nRussia, South Africa and The European Union, along with a vast\n rainbow of smaller nations from all continents to agree that this \naggression must be stopped. All have all condemned the US sanctions: it \nis sometimes the only policy position they all agree on.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These latest sanctions are as \ncounter-productive as their predecessors have been since they were first\n introduced in 1962, following the defeat of the Bay of Pigs invasion. \nThey have delivered precisely none of their stated intensions.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There was then, is now, and will be no\n yielding of the resolve of the Cuban people to determine their own \ndestiny and to assist democratic sister nations, like Venezuela, in \nachieving theirs. Cuba Support Group Ireland humbly pledges its\n solidarity, and its support, in that noble endeavour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
