{"id":8220,"date":"2023-09-08T20:15:00","date_gmt":"2023-09-08T20:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cubasupport.ie\/latest\/?p=8220"},"modified":"2023-09-06T09:22:58","modified_gmt":"2023-09-06T09:22:58","slug":"visiting-cubans-call-for-solidarity-to-break-the-us-blockade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cubasupport.ie\/latest\/visiting-cubans-call-for-solidarity-to-break-the-us-blockade\/","title":{"rendered":"Visiting Cubans call for solidarity to break the US blockade"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"747\" height=\"421\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kB5n_1YiMrw?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;start=56&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Iv\u00e1n Barreto L\u00f3pez from the Cuban Institute for Friendship Among the Peoples (ICAP) spoke to&nbsp;<em>Green Left<\/em>&nbsp;about ending the US-imposed blockade of Cuba which he said has impacted \u201cevery Cuban\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere is not even one single Cuban alive who has not suffered the impact of the blockade because for more than sixty years we\u2019ve been suffering from these policies from the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn terms of [overall] damage from the blockade, we\u2019re talking about $US114 billion of damage and if we take into account the devaluation of the [currency] over history it rises to more than $US700 billion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe impact is in every sphere: in health, food, medical supplies, tools for any workplace.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier, Barreto L\u00f3pez addressed a public forum, hosted by the Australia-Cuba Friendship Society (ACFS), on July 26. It was held on the 70th anniversary of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenleft.org.au\/content\/day-launched-cuban-revolution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">attack on the Moncada Barracks<\/a>&nbsp;\u2014 a key moment in the lead up to the Cuban Revolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It also marked the successful conclusion of this year\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenleft.org.au\/content\/australia-cuba-love-campaign-launched\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cFrom Australia to Cuba with love\u201d campaign<\/a>&nbsp;in which supporters raised funds for medical equipment for Cuba. ACFS supporters raised more than $5000 and it is not too late to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/from-australia-to-cuba-with-love-2023.raisely.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">contribute<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Marianniz D\u00edaz Hern\u00e1ndez from the Cuban Centre of Molecular Immunology told the forum about Cuba\u2019s pandemic response, including her own experience in developing COVID-19 vaccines.
