\"\"Cuba Support Group Ireland is pleased to announce the \u00a0dates and venues of a nationwide speaking tour by Canadian academic and author, Keith Bolender, a world expert on the blockade of Cuba.<\/strong><\/p>\n

His talk will be based on his latest book,\u00a0Cuba Under Siege:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/i> American Policy, the Revolution and Its People.<\/em><\/p>\n

In it, Bolender explores how Cuban society has been affected by 50 years of \u2018non stop hostility from the world\u2019s most powerful nation\u2019. \u00a0He offers extensive historical analysis, firsthand interviews and expert comment.<\/p>\n

Most significantly, perhaps, Bolender puts the blockade of Cuba into the historical military context of the tactic of siege and analyses the psychological impacts of this on the besieged population, with some remarkable insights from historical parallels. \u00a0Through this contextualisation, the potential of American policy to deliver its stated intentions is evaluated with uncomfortable conclusions for policy makers.<\/p>\n

A freelance journalist living in Toronto, Keith Bolender has written extensively on Cuban matters for a number of North American publications and is the expert consulted by the Washington based, Council on Hemispheric Affairs (COHA) on Cuban issues.<\/p>\n

The US policy of embargo has been applied against Cuba since 1962 and is both the longest and most intense blockade in human history. \u00a0In that time, it\u00a0has failed to deliver its stated intentions to ‘starve the population into rising up against its leaders’. \u00a0Many would argue that it has delivered precisely the opposite. \u00a0Bolender explains why this might be.<\/p>\n
